Birds
Discover Spain’s Birds: A Paradise for Birdwatching Enthusiasts.
Spain is a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to an incredible variety of bird species, from majestic raptors to rare and elusive creatures. The country’s diverse landscapes, ranging from rugged mountains and expansive plains to coastal wetlands and dense forests, provide the perfect habitats for a wide range of birds.
Among the most notable species are the Spanish imperial eagle, one of Europe’s most endangered raptors, and the griffon vulture, a magnificent bird of prey that soars high above Spain’s mountain ranges. Bearded vultures can also be spotted in the Pyrenees, while the booted eagle graces many of the country’s more remote areas.
For those seeking something rarer, Spain is home to the Great Bustard (Abutarda), one of the heaviest flying birds in the world, which can be found in the open plains of Castilla-La Mancha. The little bustard and black-winged kite are also notable species found in the Iberian Peninsula.
